Impossible? Not With God

Mary was a young girl living an ordinary life when everything changed. An angel appeared to her with life - changing news: she would give birth to a son named Jesus, and His kingdom would never end.

Understandably, Mary was confused and overwhelmed. How could this be possible? She wasn’t married, and she knew the limits of what seemed realistic. But the angel reassured her that this wouldn’t be the work of men – it would be the work of the Holy Spirit. What seemed impossible was, in fact, God’s plan. Despite her questions and fears, Mary chose to trust. Her willingness to say yes allowed God’s extraordinary purpose to unfold through her life.

Fast forward years later, and Jesus – now grown and beginning His ministry – met Nicodemus, a respected leader and teacher. Nicodemus came at night, drawn by curiosity and a deep longing for truth. Jesus told him that in order to see the kingdom of God, he must be born again. This puzzled Nicodemus. How could someone be born again after already being grown? It didn’t make sense to him.

Jesus explained that this wasn’t about physical rebirth but spiritual transformation. It wasn’t something that could be achieved by effort or understanding alone – it required the work of the Spirit. Just as the Spirit brought life to Mary’s womb, the Spirit brings new life to anyone who believes.

The invitation that Jesus extended to Nicodemus is the same invitation we receive today. No matter how distant we feel from God or how unworthy we believe we are, the Holy Spirit continues to move, drawing us closer to Him. Sometimes this calling feels subtle – a small tug on our heart – and other times, it feels like a clear voice, asking us to take a step of faith. The real question is: How will we respond?

Mary responded with trust, even though she didn’t have all the answers. Nicodemus, though hesitant, continued to seek truth. Their willingness to engage with God’s message allowed Him to move in their lives in ways they could have never imagined.

Even as the Christmas season passes, the reminder remains – the same God who worked through Mary and spoke to Nicodemus is working in our lives today. The story isn’t distant or outdated – it’s alive and relevant. The God who made the impossible possible then is still doing the impossible now.

As we step into the new year, reflect on the gift of Christ and the invitation to let God work in your life. His invitation is simple but transformative: trust Him, say yes, and allow Him to shape your heart. He is waiting for your response.
